A New Year, Blank Pages, and Trusting God with the Story

Happy New Year!

As a new year approaches, there’s something about it that feels like a fresh start. We begin making plans to do better — with our health, our finances, our relationships, and maybe (hopefully) with our time spent seeking God.

The new year feels like a new beginning.

I love a brand-new notebook with blank pages. There’s something uncluttered and hopeful about it — like anything is possible. It makes me feel ready to begin again.

But this year, I’ve been thinking…
What if, instead of rushing to fill those pages ourselves, we handed them over to God and asked Him to write the story?

What if we invited Him to lead us — in our health journey, our finances, our relationships — and to show us more of who He is along the way? What if we trusted Him to reveal things far beyond what we could plan on our own?

“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
— Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV)

What if we lived with the expectation that the God of the universe desires an intimate relationship with us — that He wants us to walk with Him daily, not just check off spiritual boxes?

And what if we truly believed that He is:

“Able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to His power that is at work within us.”
— Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)

When Goals Feel Overwhelming

If I’m honest, the start of a new year can feel overwhelming.

I have so many goals — where do I even begin?

Do I start January 1st with my healthy living plan, or wait until the Monday after?
Do I tackle my finances first — paying off Christmas bills, starting a savings plan, or even just tossing extra change into a jar?
Do I commit to writing notes to friends or scheduling a weekly lunch date?

And then there’s work.

How do I stay consistent?
How do I organize my planner?
How do I turn dreams into something I actually follow through on?

I love creating vision boards. I love to dream.
But sometimes I wonder — am I limiting myself? Or am I trying to do too much all at once?

It’s enough to make my head spin.

Remembering Who Holds the Plan

When I pause and take a breath, I’m reminded of this truth:

Whatever ends up written on the blank pages of my plans, God already has a plan — and that plan is for my good.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
— Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)

So whether my goals revolve around healthy living, finances, relationships, work, or simply becoming more consistent — I don’t have to figure it all out first.

I can seek Him.

He holds the bigger picture.
His plan is good.
And it is far more than I could ever ask or imagine.

Starting with What Matters Most

So this year, before I fill the pages…
Before I finalize the goals…
Before I chase productivity or perfection…

I want my first priority to be simple:

Seek Him.

From those blank, uncluttered pages, I want my life to be guided by His presence, His wisdom, and His peace — trusting that as I walk with Him, the rest will unfold exactly as it should.

Ready to Begin with Intention?

If the thought of blank pages feels both hopeful and overwhelming, you don’t have to start alone.

I’ve created a free 30-Day Faith & Fitness Journal to help you begin this year with intention — grounding your days in prayer, movement, reflection, and grace.

This journal is designed to help you:

  • Start each day by seeking God first
  • Reflect on your health, habits, and heart
  • Build consistency without pressure or perfection
  • Create space to listen for what God is leading you into this season

Think of it as a gentle guide for your first 30 days — a place to let God meet you right where you are.

As you begin filling these pages, my prayer is that you’ll discover something even better than a perfectly planned year — a deeper walk with the One who already knows the story He’s writing.

I’m creating something special for women who want to care for their bodies while staying rooted in faith. If that sounds like you, join the Strong in Faith, Fit in Body interest list to be notified when it opens.
